π£ We are excited to invite you to the BioML Hackathon aimed at addressing some of the most critical challenges in biomedicine!
π· Why to participate?
Machine Learning is emerging as a powerful tool offering new ways to combat diseases and improve human health. If you have experience training #ML models, we invite you to contribute to the effort against cardiotoxicity in drug discovery.
π· Challenge Overview
Drug discovery is a complex process. Although many drug candidates demonstrate promising results in animal models, only 11% reach the market. A significant reason for the high failure rate is toxicity, when small molecules unintentionally inhibit a key protein that regulates the human heartbeat, leading to severe side effects and rendering the drug unusable.
π· What will be your task at the Hackathon?
During this competition, your task will be to train an ML model to predict whether a compound inhibits the critical protein.
π· Participation Requirements
πΈ Prior experience in training machine learning models,
πΈ Basic knowledge of Python,
πΈ You can join individually or as a team (up to 3 people),
No prior chemical knowledge is required. The competition begins with a lecture that will teach you how to train ML models on molecules. You will be provided with a dataset of molecules in SMILES format, along with inhibition labels (0 or 1).
π· What will you gain at the end?
By developing a leading predictive model, you will contribute to reducing cardiotoxicity risks and boosting the success rate of clinical trials.
You will also work under the mentorship of experts from leading biomedical companies, such as Denovo Sciences, Amaros AI, Optic, and BostonGene.
π· Prizes
Yes, there will be prizes! The hackathon features a total prize pool of $2000, with the following rewards for the top three participants:
π 1st place - $1000 Amazon Gift Card
π 2nd place - $600 Amazon Gift Card
π 3rd place - $400 Amazon Gift Card
