Soft skills could be called the unsung heroes of professional success. Professional qualifications and knowledge always get the spotlight, but we shouldn't forget the "hard" power of soft skills.
Just like professional knowledge, soft skills can be developed and sharpened. Many skills belong on a list of soft skills. Here are some examples:

## What Are Soft Skills?

- time management,
- focus,
- stress resilience,
- teamwork,
- critical thinking,
- decision-making,
- emotional intelligence.

It is this last skill I want to draw your attention to, because I believe it is of primary importance in the 21st century, which makes the effort to develop it all the more important: a healthy, constructive atmosphere helps people make progress and reach new achievements.

## What Is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize and manage your own emotions and those of the people around you.

What do we gain by developing and applying emotional intelligence?

- coping with pressure and stress;
- managing ourselves and others effectively during negotiations;
- the chance to be in an advantageous, favorable position in relationships;
- mutual respect;
- smooth resolution of conflicts.

Emotional intelligence in the workplace is especially important, because problems often come up at work, and you need to be able to handle them calmly, without letting a healthy professional debate turn into a fight or personal hostility. Emotional intelligence goes a long way toward building sound working relationships and growing your career.

Soft skills shape an employee's communication skills and emotional intelligence, which are decisive for professional success.
