Your employer offers AMD 650,000, but "for some reason" less than that reaches your bank account every month. That "some reason" is four mandatory deductions: income tax, the funded pension contribution, stamp duty (the military fund contribution) and health insurance. And in 2026, two of them changed: stamp duty fell sharply, while universal health insurance (UHI) appeared in its place.

Below is how to calculate your salary in Armenia under the 2026 rules. Try it right now: enter your salary (or the one you dream of) and see where every dram goes.

## How to Calculate Your Salary: The Four Deductions

All four deductions are calculated from the gross (registered) salary, so the formula is simple:

**Net salary = gross − income tax − funded pension contribution − stamp duty − UHI**

Here are the 2026 rules, one by one.

### 1. Income Tax — 20%

Income tax in Armenia is the largest deduction and the simplest: exactly 20% of the gross salary, with no thresholds or exceptions. On AMD 650,000, that is AMD 130,000.

### 2. Funded Pension Contribution

The funded pension contribution is mandatory for employees born on or after January 1, 1974:

- for salaries up to AMD 500,000: **5%**,
- above 500,000: **10% − AMD 25,000** (the state makes up the difference),
- the maximum calculation base is AMD 1,125,000, which means the monthly contribution never exceeds **AMD 87,500**.

The formula is built so that there is no "jump" when you cross the 500,000 threshold: whether you earn 500,000 or 500,001, you pay about AMD 25,000.

### 3. Stamp Duty

A new, simplified scale applies from the December 2025 payroll for salaries above AMD 200,000, and from January 2026 for everyone else:

- salaries up to AMD 1,000,000: **AMD 1,000**,
- over 1,000,000: **AMD 15,000**.

The four lower tiers of the old scale (AMD 1,500 / 3,000 / 5,500 / 8,500) all fell to AMD 1,000; the AMD 15,000 top tier did not change. For people on an average salary, this means a saving of about AMD 4,500–7,500 a month.

### 4. UHI — Universal Health Insurance

This is what's new in 2026. The premium is AMD 10,800 for everyone, but the amount withheld from your salary depends on your income:

<table>
<thead>
  <tr>
    <th>
      Gross salary
    </th>

    <th>
      Deduction from salary
    </th>
  </tr>
</thead>

<tbody>
  <tr>
    <td>
      up to AMD 200,000
    </td>

    <td>
      AMD 0 (the obligation starts in 2027)
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      AMD 200,001 – 500,000
    </td>

    <td>
      AMD 4,800 (the state subsidizes AMD 6,000)
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      over AMD 500,000
    </td>

    <td>
      AMD 10,800
    </td>
  </tr>
</tbody>
</table>

If you've heard the figures "AMD 300" or "AMD 3,300", they aren't wrong, but they refer to something else: the *change* in take-home pay compared with 2025, where the stamp duty saving is subtracted from the UHI deduction. For example, for someone earning AMD 300,000, UHI added a deduction of AMD 4,800, but stamp duty went down by AMD 4,500: the net difference is exactly AMD 300. You can read more about how the [universal health insurance](https://hrdrone.am/blog/universal-health-insurance-2026) system works in our separate article.

## The Three "Cliffs": Where 1 Dram Costs You Dearly

Income tax and the funded pension contribution grow smoothly, but stamp duty and UHI work by thresholds: as soon as you cross a threshold, the deduction jumps. As a result, the net salary curve has three "cliffs":

<table>
<thead>
  <tr>
    <th>
      Threshold (gross)
    </th>

    <th>
      What jumps
    </th>

    <th>
      Drop in net salary
    </th>
  </tr>
</thead>

<tbody>
  <tr>
    <td>
      AMD 200,000
    </td>

    <td>
      UHI: 0 → 4,800
    </td>

    <td>
      ≈ AMD 4,800
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      AMD 500,000
    </td>

    <td>
      UHI: 4,800 → 10,800
    </td>

    <td>
      ≈ AMD 6,000
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      AMD 1,000,000
    </td>

    <td>
      Stamp duty: 1,000 → 15,000
    </td>

    <td>
      ≈ AMD 14,000
    </td>
  </tr>
</tbody>
</table>

The last one is the most striking: with a gross salary of **AMD 1,000,000**, the net is AMD 713,200, while with **AMD 1,000,001** it is AMD 699,201. You "gained" one dram and lost almost AMD 14,000.

This also has a curious side effect: the same net amount can come from two different gross salaries. For example, a gross of AMD 990,000 and a gross of AMD 1,010,000 both give exactly **AMD 706,200** net. In such cases, the calculator points out the alternative for you.

## Gross to Net Salary: Worked Examples

Here is how gross converts to net salary in Armenia for a participant in the funded pension system, under 2026 rules:

## Before You Negotiate: Gross or Net?

In Armenia, salary offers are often quoted as net figures, while the contract states the gross. As you've seen, the gap between the two is 25–30%, and mixing them up is costly.

Two simple rules:

1. When you receive an offer, always check whether the figure is gross or net.
2. If you know how much net pay you need, use the calculator's "Net → Gross" mode and negotiate with the gross figure. The calculator returns the smallest gross salary that gives you the net amount you want.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Why is the UHI deduction AMD 4,800 if the premium is AMD 10,800?

For salaries of AMD 200,001–500,000, the state subsidizes AMD 6,000 a month, so only AMD 4,800 is withheld from the employee. For salaries above AMD 500,000, the full AMD 10,800 is withheld.

### I was born before January 1, 1974. What changes?

The funded pension contribution is not mandatory for you. Switch off the corresponding toggle in the calculator, and the calculation will be made without that deduction. If you join voluntarily, the same rules apply.

### What will change in 2027?

The obligation to pay UHI will also extend to people earning up to AMD 200,000, who are still exempt in 2026. We will update the calculator as soon as the new rules take effect.

### Does the employer pay anything on top of my salary?

There is no separate "employer tax" in Armenia: all four deductions are made from your gross salary. In other words, what you cost your employer is your gross salary (plus voluntary bonuses and the benefits package).

### Does this calculator work for sole proprietors?

No. The calculator is for employees working under an employment contract. Sole proprietors (individual entrepreneurs) are taxed under completely different rules (turnover tax, a one-off annual UHI payment).

### Is it true that income tax in IT is 10%?

Only partly. Under the 2025–2031 high-tech support regime, the 10% rate applies to R&D employees who meet the criteria at companies registered in the High Technology Register. If your employer is on that register, check whether your position is covered by the benefit.
